What a sump pump does
A drainage system collects water in a pit; the sump pump lifts it out and sends it away from the house. It's the part of the system doing the heavy lifting — which is exactly why a tired, undersized, or failed pump shows up as water on the floor.
A properly selected pump is meant to keep up with the drainage it serves, storm after storm.
Signs your pump needs attention
Don't wait for a flood if you notice:
- A pump that runs nonstop or cycles oddly
- Water on the floor despite a pump being installed
